I'm planning to build a multi-stage effect and I have questions about buffers and power sections.

So I want to build something that combines compression, aliasing/bitcrushing, modulation, and a filter. Some of this will involve signal splitting and blending. Many of the layouts and schematics I find have a buffer stage. I know I should include some amplification for splits and blends but do I need to include the input buffers that may be present on each stage or can I omit them? Can power conditioning be done once for multiple circuits? Considering that space will be an issue with such a design, I would like to have a better idea of what I can consolidate.

This obviously is in no way comprehensive but, I/O buffering generally has to do with controlling impedance. In-line buffering has to do with maintaining signal level. Go through your design and see where those things are applicable.

In and out buffers are necessary when you don't know what precedes and follows the circuit block. If you know whats around it, you design the blocks to fit.

You can most probably get away with doing 2 power filtering circuits, one for the bitcrush oscillator and one for the rest.
