Are you unemployed?

I don't enjoy the idea of a job, I would rather work on hobbies and the idea of a job is kinda daunting, new, scary and depressing to me. Obviously I plan on getting one (Actively searching).

Just wondering if anyone else is in similar position. I'm lucky that I'm living at home currently, and 24, which I know is bad, which is why im trying to get a part time job before I'm 25 at least.

I also suffer from depression and anxiety, so maybe it's not really an Aspie specific thing, though I did remember someone mentioning a lot of Autistic people are unemployed.

I gave up on the corporate world after doing a lot of short-term contract work

I'm 27 and I still live at home. I've been unemployed since I dropped out of college in 2017.

That's why they call it work and not fun ;) no one or at least very very few people want to work. We would all rather spend time on our hobbies.

34, and just got terminated from my second stint in a federal position during the probationary period. I did military straight out of high school, and that... well, while I can't recommend my personal experience, I did end up with a disability rating that has kept me afloat since I don't have any other support.

I’ll be a therapist eventually. Suck at maintaining internships though.

Graduated with a mechanical engineering degree. Went traveling to central America and realized I was miserable in college because I was being forced to interact with so many people. Have been employed in various jobs since. The more I get to do on my own with my hands the more I like it. Hoping to get a YouTube channel to an income level. Dealing with people, especially in loud environments is exhausting.

I'm 32 and quit my latest job last year. It was the perfect job (merchandising) until it suddenly became full-time with no warning, and very physical and working in teams, all things I hate. I realized after working in retail for ten years that I've been bullied and treated with more disrespect than I ever was in school. The thought of working gives me high anxiety and I developed PTSD from my latest job. I was hoping to be diagnosed and get disability but it looks like that's not a thing that happens, so I'm just poor, living with my parents.

Made a lot of different job, no choice when you are on your own you need an income to pay bills. Now working from home 100% that good situation.

Been working corporate for years. I wouldn’t recommend it.

I have never been employed, as I was sheltered from the world and had to look after my bipolar Dad for years. So sheltered I never realized I was an aspie until recently so there is little to no filter on my autism. I have a computer science BS cum laude with a pile of awards but executive dysfunction and anxiety kept me from trying to find work, even remote. So you could say I'm underemployed.

I'm open to something but it would have to be VERY autism friendly in terms of sensory load, tolerance for my mannerisms, understanding that I've never been employed at my age for valid reasons above, and so on.

I’m also an aspie with depression and anxiety, I’m only 22 currently but yeah I’ve always struggled with employment. Every job I’ve ever had I only held aprox 3-6 months, while my brother and all other friends my age kept their first part time jobs for like two years. I’ve only worked as retail/delivery drivers and while I’ve had some good managers they seem to love pushing me towards full time hours which just always burnt me out eventually and warp my sense of time to where I felt like I was always either at work or getting ready for work. Not sure what employment will look like for me in the future but I don’t think I’ll ever be happy or even able to work a regular 9-5 job. I got payed 50$ to do photography work one time (right place right time situation) and that was the only profesional work I’ve ever done that included a real interest of mine.

I got paid 50$ to

FTFY.

Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:

  • Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.

  • Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

Beep, boop, I'm a bot

I'm a SAHD. Pre panni I was a shipping lead for a small camping/fishing online company. Now its just more cost effective for me to stay home then spend the 2k/month on childcare for my area.

Since I graduated college I have shifting between part time and non formal employment. Usually my unemployment gaps were not inactive because there was family bussiness in which I could help out , but I'm increasing the gap from the field in which I graduated from.
