How many of you go to issue council every once in a while to see if you can contribute to something?

BUG

Every few days I go to the issue council to see what people reported, and contribute if I have noticed something similar.

I feel a lot of bugs go "under the radar" because even if someone report it, people don't contribute and it just go into archive, as most people will ignore the bug and think "pff just another bug" and try to work around it, instead of reporting or see if someone already reported similar, and contribute.

So if you have a few minutes to spare, go there and just look at newly reported bugs, can help I hope put more stuff on their to-fix-list.

Every time I experience a bug I haven't reported before.

EDIT: For clarity I dont stop my play session and go to the IC as soon as I experience a bug. I make a mental note of it and then once I'm done I go to the IC and report/contribute to the ones I experienced.

Yeah, same. Besides, the information there can help me find a workaround if I need one, so I figure it's beneficial for everyone

It's extremely disappointing to put in hours of effort to have something auto flagged as not enough confirmations simply because it's about something in the game that no one else cares about testing or looking at. If I remember correctly even when I posted on Reddit the super obvious bug about ship rentals having the wrong prices about year ago it got like 30 upvotes on Reddit and 2 on the issue. All you had to do was go to any rental console and look at the screen. After having 30+ issues with detailed screenshots, videos etc and only 3 confirmed I've given up.

They need to rework it to have detailed reports get some sort of manual vetting or something. I understand the concept of "drinking from the firehose" and needing automated systems to deal with it but it's not actually that much work to manually read through this stuff with the amount of issues I've actually seen in there.

They did an isc on the team that covers them. It seemed they do some vetting

Biggest offender to me is spending the time doing the research(for example, the rental bugs, still unfixed, required me to travel to various locations to confirm the bug was not localized) only to have the bug report archived as duplicated pointing to a different issue (for example, in 3.17 the config option to set gimballs to auto on default seems to be broken, but the report was duplicated because of a report about gimballs reverting to fixed after qt, and the same happened during the time bounties wouldnt spawn) or just because there was not enough reproductions

Oh yeah, when I filed my first bug, I’ve certainly noticed that it wasn’t getting votes fast, so I spammed some places so people confirmed that.

This is why going on spectrum and asking for help is a good idea. Lots of people in the testing chat will help do repros for ICs that need it.

I didn't mention it in my original comment but I tried it, doesn't work. In fact the response was worse than Reddit now that I remember correctly.

I end up doing it all the time. Just politely request repros- I've done it both here and on Spectrum. Sorry to hear it didn't go well for you before.

Blame me and you will be right, but i actually am a QA Manager for a living and this is one of my main activities, except as a manager i have a testing squad. Soo when i play SC, on my free time to chill afterwork, sometimes i think about making the effort to write an extensive detailed report but i always end up acting like "damn this" and try a workaround or switch server. Sorry !

My times of service in klendathu are long gone, but I totally know what you mean.

I go there about every session I play. Either to report something specific (and generally finding at least one matching report), or to look at trending and almost confirmed issues to see if there are some I'd be in position to reproduce (if compatible with where I am, ships/weapons I have and activities I like doing).

Personally, I contribute to every issue after 3rd time. For example, I woke up dead in a station only 2 times so far with locked armor in a room that I don't have access to.

I started doing it when I got my own machine (as opposed to the cloud ones I’ve been using formerly). 🙂

I go there to report things I don't think the community has noticed. Recently reported a bug for the starfarer refueling, since I don't imagine many people have flown the starfarer and fewer have refueled with it. Unfortunately though, it's usually these sort of things that never reach the requisite 10 upvotes.

Others I've done in the past year were "Trapped in the Argo Cargo" and a graphical glitch with the layered HUD when its scratched.

I gave up on the issue council after having multiple of my reports being wrongfully flagged as duplicates of similar, but definitely not the same bug. Too much effort for one person to make irrelevant and even if that didn't happen, it has always been a gamble if the reports get enough contributions to be validaded.

Now I just play the game, ask for workarounds in chat and then I get frustrated when my play has been interrupted enough times and take a small hiatus from playing.

I think it is more than fair to not use the issue council, we've all paid for the game, actively being a tester is optional imo.

And it's a wonder how some people make Evo right? I get it! I gave you your point back as someone people can't take criticism about the game and truth and would rather thumb people down instead. Which is why I have a throwaway account here on Reddit, it doesn't matter if people thumb me down when posting on a controversial topic...

I agree with your first and second paragraphs and 3rd not sure what that means... but if I understand, yeah, it should be your choice not to use it if it's not fair and it should be optional...

My issue was the exact same and you get some knob who says something negative and then downs your post to where others read it without investigating, to where you don't make enough contributions to be validated, something that you spent hours on investigating when you are actually right, gosh I am glad the old system is gone.

And you are talking to somebody who made EVO and ESG in Star Citizen.

I've given up on IC. It's just ignored by cig/is designed to placate us.

I never go to the issue council. I prefer to make videos and share my opinion, gauge what others think and maybe help shape the future somewhat :)

and maybe help shape the future somewhat

And how do you recon doing that without reporting things to CIG? You expect your fame will make them chase after you?

7
MrBlackMaze•

Chase, no. But if they like my content then I’m on the right track :)

So far so good!

I don't see anything helpful than from you, except the fable attempt of self promotion.
Not really keen when people do that...
