Minor handiwork

Anyone here looking to make a few extra bucks? I need some help with some (seemingly) trivial things (installing curtain rods, for instance) and I've looked into professional help and it's wild (250-300 dollars to install the brackets for the curtain rods in 2 rooms). Even trying to use Handy isn't working (I paid for a couple of hours of handy-person work and the person wanted me to pay them out of pocket the same I already paid (so, instead of like 125 - they wanted another 125 out of pocket).

And for what it's worth, it's not so much an issue of laziness or wanting to be cheap. I wish I had the skill sets - but don't really. I have a form of muscular dystrophy which makes this sort of thing hard. Plus I'm a single parent and was working full-time until a car accident broke my wrist, shoulder, etc and now I'm just stuck. Even then, my take-home each month is about 2000 dollars ... yeah, things are rough. Anyway - this isn't meant to be whiny or anything - I just wanted to clarify why I'm not just doing it myself or paying the higher fees for which a private contractor has requested.
