broken bones
My kid broke his collarbone today at school. They took 6 hours to call and tell me about it, but that's a separate issue (my kid does have a history of playing up injuries to try and go home early). He's now terrified of taking his sling off, and can't get comfortable laying down to go to sleep. He desperately wants cuddles but can't get himself settled with me without being in pain. And the ER gave him Tylenol 30 minutes after I had given him Motrin, so now I can't even give him anything for the pain for another hour, and he is exhausted and just wants to sleep. How do you even help a 4 year old deal with a broken collarbone? I feel so bad for him.

We bought my daughter a Therapedic Oversized Backrest Pillow from bed bath and beyond when she broke a bone in her arm a few months ago. It helped to keep her propped up and an easier time to lift her off the couch and lift herself when she was ready.
I feel like the first day/night was the worst for pain. By a week she wasn't taking the pain meds all day, mostly nights. Doctors told us the first day or two is more pain then it lessens over time.
We used body pillows on each side to structure for bed so she wouldn't be able to toss and turn as much. It's a little harder to do anyways with sling.
Maybe a new plush to cuddle with and fave foods for the weekend. Renting a new movie since they can't be as active.
Thank you for this, I forgot I have a backrest pillow I slept on when I was pregnant with my youngest, I can set that up in his bed. He refused to lay flat, so he's propped up on a bunch of pillows against the wall. We're planning on a trip to target tomorrow for a new toy and some stationary/low effort activities, he can't go back to preschool for a week and he's going to be so bored. Of course it would be his dominant side that got broken as well. I think tomorrow night I'll set him up with the backrest pillow and pillow bumpers on each side, and pull the spare mattress in from his sister's room so I can sleep in with him. He's a super restless sleeper, so every time he falls properly asleep he turns and wakes himself up crying.
I'd stock up on baby wipes too so you can extend out baths, we did once a week and she was fine with that amount. Taking pictures of sling too when ready to take off and put back on for placement. Oh and using bigger shirts so when you do change his clothes it's easier to manipulate the clothing and move their body less. She's been out of the sling for a month so it's starting to get hazy but I think those are all the tips I can think of.
Wishing him all the rest he can get and a speedy recovery! It sounds like he'll have a comfy set up.
