(NC) Friend got hurt outside of work when tool box he had to buy for work fell on his foot. Any chance at a claim?

Friend just got a new job and still in 90 day window before he can get insurance and other benefits. Work requires him to buy a large toolbox and tools for the job. While unloading it fell and possibly broke the foot. Bare minimum he can’t walk. Any options here?

Was he unloading it on company property?

No

since the “unloading” was done at the employees discretion and outside of work and outside of employers control, my opinion is that the carrier/employer will reject the claim. it’s possible there is some specific case law for ohio that may allow an exception. he can always get a free consultation with a comp attorney. or just file the claim and see what happens.
