Marcus Sasser cooking at the first day of G League Elite Camp. Definitely the star of Day 1.

Ugh I really need him to come back to Houston next season. We really have a chance to win it all next year if he does.
How should we be assessing this? Sasser is a junior. He played at Houston which plays in a weak conference. He was Houston's best player and had he not been injured Houston might have been contenders to win the NCAA tournament. This was only one good game in an environment that is more pick up than structured. Also he was playing against prospects and not NBA players.
My gut feeling is that Sasser might be able to play himself into the first round and can certainly play himself into the top 40. Has he even been on draft boards recently? He hasn't been from what I've seen.
Going off memory, he was a popular early season pick for 2nd round - priority UDFA, with the potential to play himself into the 1st round with a stellar season and deep tourney run. He got injured kinda early on in Dec, and the general feeling was that he'd return to UH, so I think his draft buzz died down.
The back of this draft looks weak. Sasser should be solidly in the draft regardless of his performance. Only if he plays well then he could play himself into being 25-30 and 31-40 should be relatively obtainable for him.
He looks like he is good enough to be a bench player early in the season, probably only spending time in the G league because of his injury and because it is common for rookies to do so. Had he played the entire college season then he probably wouldn't even need a short spell in the G league. Sasser could come into the NBA be a solid player like Chris Duarte, although I would put the expectations a little lower than that.
There's a lot to like. And he's fun to watch. The OTD scoring and shooting+floater touch is great. Interested in his wingspan cause he looks like he'd only guard 1s in the NBA, but he's high effort and quick, so a good measurement would let him hold his own on mismatches.
A team interested in building his PG skills might stick him the G League, but yeah I wouldn't be surprised if they narrow his focus to scoring and defending and he becomes a good 6th man.
No question he’s a draftable prospect imo. I would be surprised if he doesn’t also play in the regular combine though, so we’ll get to see more of him.
