Written Working At A Stables In Summertime.

Poem

This song in my heart, this song of my soul
Blowing, borne upon the quiet breezes, soft here
In bright, early summertime. I’m out rolling grass,
Or fetching the horses in from up on the green
Edges of the plain; those same breezes I see
Now rolling green ripples on the shaking barley;
I look out to an aperture in the wood-studded
Green hillsides wandering; now some nascent,
Descriptive tongue may furtively long still for
Deeper, more pleasant feelings than these I
Hold here, now, presently, in my happy heart;
I am happy down here, connected as much to
This, my landscape; this my bight, and spacious
Countryside home; here, I’m connected to all
The world, and I lilt as clouds lilt waving, blown
Softly upon the high environs of the sky; here
A power and a music walks within me as so
Long I’ve walked these old, green pathways;
A power and a music from deep places, filling
Breathlessly the subtle internal motions of this:
Our mighty mother planet. And there is a song
For Winter, and a song for all seasons; here in
The depth of my pleasant solitude, and under
Here, this, our pleasant, azure sky; and here are
Flowers born bright, yellow as the Sun, and
Here moves Earth, as I move, bright and warm
As the horses I see moving now out on the hills;
I am born to Earth: born to fields, streams,
Patches of lovely woodland breaking up at
Their ease the sweet and striking green of this
Ground. I lilt to Earth, and I sigh silently in my
Soul, that I may look upon these; for now I do
Not want for better times, or better feelings; I
Move at peace now, through all my wasted
Rememberings and hollow murmurs; in my
Pleasant sensations, now I walk in a sense of
Perfect peace, and connected harmony, with
Every sighing tree in bright woodlands dotting
These hills; and, in my discipline, in my hardy
Self; in my limbs grown strong and capable by
My work on yards and farms, I stand to these
Moments, seeing this greening in myself; now,
As happy in this Summer sunshine as also
In moodier times of a haze of rain maybe
Sweeping through this same tunnel of hillside
To bite damp upon the chill moving slowly in
My bones. Birds take flight, folded in their
Speed against the wind; and as my labours
Begin again, and as I busy myself working, as
All we beasts of the Sun busy ourselves; I am
Calmed and made reverent in the warmth of
This, my silent serenity in beautiful sunshine.

I'm sure some people can be put off by its length, but I think it was definitely worth the read. I had just one word in my head while reading: satisfaction. Every line in the poem told me that there is no other place in the world that you would rather be. Well-chosen words made it easy for me to imagine the serenity of being one with nature. I specifically liked your choice of peaceful adjectives combined with words related to nature. This includes "azure sky", "rolling green ripples", "shaking barley", etc. Very descriptive poem!

I really enjoyed your poem - thank you! It wonderfully captured the feeling of peacefulness while doing something useful outside, that is rare to find and hard to describe. There are many beautiful lines like "I am born to earth". I did find it very long but that's maybe not a bad thing here.
