Partner is out of town - really wanted to drink last night

My partner is out of the country for a work trip. They've been gone for a week as of today and will be gone next week. I enjoy my solitude as an introvert and only-child, but I still am finding myself feeling sad and lonely.

Since they've been gone I haven't gone for a run, I haven't walked the dogs (although I do give them attention). I haven't really been working from home while they are gone either, been making the commute 1.5 hours into the office - I enjoy the energy there, and the motorcycle ride, plus there is a ferry involved and it's very peaceful and pretty 20 minute transfer.

I noticed on the ferry ride I've been checking my phone more than appreciating the view and experience, which then makes me feel kinda triggered thanks to the doom-scrolling, making me feel like I gotta "move move move" and "do something about issue x, y, and z". Which then ends up making me stressed, which then makes me crave the affects of alcohol, that "aaah" feeling when the first few sips start to metabolize in your stomach and you stop giving a shit.

Yesterday on the way home, boy it sounded nice to stop at the bar and have a cocktail or two. Nobody would know, except me. I ended up hopping in the car when I got home and grabbing groceries and picked up a couple of treats instead (non-alcoholic) along with a few things that are actually healthy for me, just so they're around I'm more likely to eat em (fruit, nuts, etc).

I hope you are able to check in with yourselves when you notice you're craving and getting wrapped up in the veil of our oh-so-precious ego trying to call the shots "hey, we're special and we're feeling uncomfortable feelings, lets go get a drink and stuff that shit down!"

Only child and introvert here too, I am a pet sitter and have noticed being on assignment and away from my partner is still one of my biggest triggers. Comforting to know others understand the same struggle, thank you for your post!

Another only child/introvert. My partner being out of town a couple of weeks ago actually made me think it might be time to quit. Usually when they leave, I enjoy the time alone and use it as an excuse to drink whatever and whenever I want.

This last time they were gone I drank too much the first night (even on naltrexone, which helped me reduce my drinking over all) and the second day I thought, this is dumb, I'm alone and I like being alone for a couple of days, what the hell do I need to drink for?

Now a few days later I decided to quit completely. For now anyway. The previous times I quit, I did so because I did/said things that caused problems and I felt bad and guilty and basically quit for the other people in my life. This time I'm quitting for myself.

Hope you find a way to enjoy some of the solitude ...
