Abandoned and Deceived

Poem

I was there for you, holding you and waiting for you. when you were drowning in your sorrows
I was there for you, holding you and waiting for you. when your tears would never stop
I was there for you, holding you and waiting for you
When you were being smothered by the darkness around you
I was there for you, holding you and waiting for you
When you had given up all the hope to live and fight
I was there for you, holding you and waiting for you
When you pushed everyone out from your life
I was there for you, holding you and waiting for you
When you were fighting all alone the worst fears of your life
I was there for you, holding you and waiting for you
When you were crippled from inside.

Everything is over now. You are happy and you got what you always wanted.

Here I am broken and bruised from inside
Here I am sinking deep in my sorrows and sadness
Here I am gasping for love and screaming for help
Here I am choking on my sob
Here I am standing on the edge of precipice of darkness Here I am at the lowest point in my life stuck at the very bottom

I looked up, my eyes searching for you, you were nowhere to be found.
I looked behind, my eyes searching for you, you were nowhere to be found.
I looked all around in desperation , my eyes searching for you, you were nowhere to be found.

All I had was hope and faith. I gave that to you.
Now I don't have any of it left with me
All I had was strength and courage.I gave that to you.
Now I don't have any of it left with me.
All I had was care and love. I gave that to you.
Now I don't have any of it left with me.

You walked away as if nothing ever happened.
You walked away leaving me gasping and choking.
You walked away taking my mind and spirit with you.
You walked away breaking me into a million pieces.
You just walked away leaving me with nothing but loneliness.

You just walked away...

This poem hit me. The use of repetition here would almost come off redundant, but there's such pain between these lines that it feels more like a desperate, frantic plea. It's genuinely moving (I actually teared up a little while reading it, haha), and as a reader I can't help but empathize with you. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece (and please know, it does get better)

Thank you very much. I appreciate it.

It does get better when emotions are turned into words.

God, each word hit me like a truck.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

I'm gonna put my critical lense aside for a second to appreciate the raw emotion I'm sensing in this piece. The use of repetition might seem amaturish on a cursory glance but rereading it I can't help but feel a sobbing soul pouring all the pent up agony on a piece of paper/or this screen. I wish I could extend my soul out to you to hug you and embrace you as a fellow human being who quite clearly needs it. No one deserves to be hurt like this and I hope you find someone along your journey who'll be there for you like you've been for that person and more. Sending love xx

This is a raw, powerful, and effective tale of the devastation that follows a relationship where loyalty and love are not requited--where only one party gives while the other only takes. Repetition here works for me as the metaphorical blows that pound the speaker's misplaced trust beyond the breaking point--both in the "I was there for you . . ." and "You walked away . . ." sequences. Well done!

I feel like all the repetition would make this better as a slam poem, personally I don't like read the same thing over again but if it was performed that would give it a powerful rhythm.

besides that I would try to tone it down personally, but I'm betting that's because I'm older than you. I just think if you held back more to create tension then had the emotional climax at the end to resolve it that would be more effective.

if you live in a city I'm willing to bet there is somewhere you could go to read your poetry and if you watched just a few slam poetry videos (if you haven't already?) I bet you could do it, it really seems like the natural medium for a piece like this.
