Confessions
I can’t keep up,
I can’t fit in,
And sometimes I think I should go to the gym. (Do I? Oh hell no.)
I’m way too much,
I’m not enough,
Sometimes I feel stupid and call my own bluff.
You think that I’m perfect,
But really I’m not.
I’m sad to admit that I don’t do a lot.
Straight A’s don’t fix lives,
And lies cut like knives,
There isn’t much that can be fixed with high-fives.
My not-boyfriend broke up with me.
Maybe he’s gay?
That’s what everyone thinks.
Someone get me a drink.
Wait, no! I’m fifteen.
Life is a dream.
(...That’s a lie.)
My mom yelled at me.
Like a scrape on my knee,
It heals. I heel.
I’ve said “sorry” so many times it means nothing.
How on earth am I supposed to fix my upbringing?
Again, I’m fifteen.
So why do I lean
On my mom, who does literally every damn thing?
I look at the world and I feel deaf and blind.
My youth was the orange,
But I am the rind.
She told me we all have parts
That make us feel broken
Sometimes.
Does that mean
It’s just a part
And not all of me?
Does that mean “broken”
Is just a feeling
And not a state?
That’s not how it feels.
My dad doesn’t know how to take care of me.
That’s where I got my irresponsibility.
The clock ticks.
Soon it’s time to make sure
I have my place in the line.
I have a plan
I look for a sign
That maybe, what if, my plan isn’t mine?

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).
If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.
If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.
