The Last Firefly
Pale yellow light cuts through the mist
In a cold night sky, she flashes this:
“I’m looking forward to meeting you here,
The one I will share my life with this year.”
And though her luminescence shines
And though her lonesome heart yet pines,
The last firefly in the forest this night
Will find no other insects quite so bright,
And though none will weep for this sad, lost soul
She is doing her best, and she is whole
Edit; Revision based on community feedback:
A pale yellow light cuts through the damp mist
In the humid night sky, she flashes out this:
“I’ve been searching and hoping I'd find you out here,
The one whose bright spark I would always hold dear!"
And though her delicate performance is glowing
And the loneliness piercing her heart is still growing
The last firefly illuminating the evening
Will find no other insects to spectate her gleaming
And though no one will weep for this sad, lonely soul
She is doing her best, and she's already whole
Not just with her longing, or even her grief
The last firefly's Hope is her truest belief.
