A Limerick On Self-Improvement

Poem

I recently met a Miss Richmond,

Who was fond of self-enrichment.

She joined every movement

For self-improvement

And read every book, in abridgment.

She aimed at reducing her flaws,

Defying all natural laws,

And chopping like wood

As hard she could

Went hacking away at the cause.

She took a harassment class

And swapped all her plastic for glass,

She chose her pronouns,

Observed the lockdowns,

Yet something was missing, alas.

She gave up the veal and ceviche,

Stopped watching political speeches,

Fought anger with pills

She swallowed with meals,

And felt very anxious and itchy.

Determined to grow and do better,

She followed her books to the letter,

Broke up with her lover

Only to discover

That all left of her was her sweater.
