The Death of the Sun

Poem

The sun died when you left the city

I heard it call out your name

The sky screamed and the clouds wept

I soaked in my own shame

The world darkened when you packed your bags

I choked on the blackened sky

Is it better to speak or to sob?

I never got to bid you goodbye

I ran through the streets to find your car

But you were racing away

Like a mad woman, I searched for you

Begging you to stay

You were gone before I could say it

The words you didn’t want to hear

I loved you more than anything in the world

And I would for another year

The earth collapsed when you left its walls

Stars shattered as they fell to the ground

All those weeks, you were right beside me

But I never made a sound

You’re happy now, in your new kingdom

A land where you’re finally free

It took me 4 years, but I finally realize

Perhaps you were running from me
