The Unspoken Desire of a Married Man

Poem

A rustle of leaves makes me weak at the knees

I turn my broad back overwhelmed

Love of my wife, hold me, lest this girl I seize

Exposing emotions she leaves me unhelmed.

An alarm bell drones calling me to work

My eyes flutter open from their nightly spell

Reliable and steady, responsibilities I don’t shirk

Though upon this girl all the while my heart may dwell

Ah, lamentable events, my heart is well spent

Caught between two worlds

To go from habitual happiness to daily discontent

From the moment her seductive scent unfurled

After sating my belly with a healthy breakfast

I pull out in a smooth, undetected electric car

Right into, not road, but a raging tempest

of feeling and doubt inspired by a door left ajar

My eyes blink shut, on reddened cheeks

I am afraid to feel what she evokes in me

I must learn some modern coping techniques

Unlike these frantic weeds that spread free

A moment later, the curtain flutters

And reveals a bare brown arm

My heart jumps and stutters

She wields a dangerous ability to disarm

So I roll up my blue sleeves, and tell myself

Oh please, you’re not weak at the knees

This girl is bad for your health, put her up on a shelf

In forbidden love, there are no guarantees
