Thanks. The Sandman is a mythical character in European folklore who puts people to sleep and encourages and inspires beautiful dreams by sprinkling magical sand onto their eyes.

I love the sleep hoarder line. And is the sandman referring to like an hourglass or did I get that part wrong?

So many of us are always just doing things without thinking. Before, the autopilot used to scare me but nowadays, I feel like maybe it's for the best.

Thanks, at times it feels like he is intentional. Of course, he's just a part of my own brain, so...

Over working yourself and sleep exhaustion are themes I always resonate with. Great wording, especially love the idea of the sandman hoarding sleep like he's purposefully depriving you.

poems that reflect themes in my life are always the best. it’s important to use your experiences as a beacon for others to relate to, and you do this beautifully.

I think the first line could be shorted to, "I drank half of a small coffee". Other than that, there's nothing to critique! It captures the woes that a lot of us feel when our eyes refuse to shut. Beautifully done!

I like it! I feel wired reading this poem. I can imagine someone that outwardly looks fine but internally is struggling. "my racing thoughts took turns beating the dark the workday will begin in short order" really pops out at me and gives me a feeling of anxiety. Good Job!

Oh this takes me back to my years preparing for competitive exam. I liked it a lot, especially the sandman line, (that I first was confused about, but I read your explanation), it's beautiful.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our [feedback guide](https://new.reddit.com/r/ocpoetry/wiki/feedbackcritiques), or look

I drank half a cup of a small coffee

I rode my bicycle to exhaustion

Melatonin consumed by ten sharp

My racing thoughts took turns beating the dark

The workday will begin in short order

The Sandman is a selfish sleep hoarder.
