The Low

Poem

We are whiskey-buzzed degenerates

of the light-foot, nocturnal variety,

hovering high as fuck above shattered

snowflakes. Frantic, we flap

like June-thirsty hummingbirds with

makeshift tubules as we wait our turn

to suck dry the glistening dew. In these

intervals I am the night’s halo, rising

in tune with the lilt of your voice, reveling

until our anthem is punctured by scraping

of plates; only underneath its discord,

have I seen me – the glint of a hollowed god

that is sinking in every direction.

I liked this :) I think ”nocturnal variety” is a nice detail, really liked the first sentence. This whole poem works because it holds a certain vibe and emotion through it. It flows nicely. I think you have written some because It’s not too simple in a way…

English is not my first language so I find some words a bit difficult to understand sometimes but I think this poem’s english wasn’t too complicated, yet it wasn’t too simple either. You must be an english speaker tho…

Hope you keep writing !!

Wow!! my favorite poem I’ve read here so far

I got shivers reading this. To the imagery I felt and heard about the hummingbirds to “night’s halo”

I think what’s extraordinary about the way you wrote this is tht i can envision multiple ways of interpreting the meaning and symbolism yet you made a very specific narrative despite

Well done

Thank you so much! I wasn't sure if I was going to explicitly title it something like "cocaine lows" but I do prefer that it has multiple interpretations!

love this! "until our anthem is punctured by scraping of plates" and "the glint of a hollowed god that is sinking in every direction." really speaks out to me. this is well done and the imagery! it conjures up a distinct feeling for me that i rather not feel, but really enjoyed this! Read it multiple times.

=D " rising in tune with the lilt of your voice. "

Fantastical, I adore this whole poem. I didn't get the drug reference the first time through, it was just a slow ride from :l to grin. But that may be because I'm currently staving off the low lol

This is so goddamned good. I’d read it before, and I had just forgotten to comment. Those opening lines are perfection… Just perfection.

That feeling of drinking the “glistening dew” to feel great, followed by those “scraping plates” definitely speaks to me.

Your word choice is interesting and beautiful. You are just an incredibly talented poet.
