Self-Less

The one who understands me,

subtle changes in my tone.

Insists on keeping me company,

when I feel like being alone.

Harsh critique and cutting words,

internalised without retort.

The one I disregard the most,

offers the most support.

I try to extend compassion

to all those that I meet.

But for the one who's been most loyal,

this proves a difficult feat.

I seek beauty in all that's around me,

and romanticize trivial things.

While failing to see the good in myself,

count flaws but not my wins.

The one who stuck by me the most,

has been with me from the start.

Is the one I take for granted,

is the one I pick apart.

The body I often criticise,

and this soul inside it hosts.

The one staring back in the mirror,

deserves my love the most.
