Starting at 18mg of methylphenidate

Questions/Advice/Support

Hey đź‘‹

Ive just has my first titration appointment with my Dr and I'm set to start on 18mg of methylphenidate for 4 weeks, then move up to 36mg.

Is this normal when starting meds? This is the first of any I'm trying and the Dr said I am unlikely to see any response from them, and it's more of a test to see how my body reacts?

Is this all standard ?

Thank you.

Yes it’s standard as far as I know. Your psychiatrist and the titration team will work together to see what seems best for you. You have to start on a low dose so your body gets used to it. You’ll have to report how you’re feeling most likely by filling in a questionnaire on a regular basis. This will also be the case when they increase your dose. Titration can take a few weeks to months so try not to get discouraged. Hope it works out well for you!

Just took my first dose of 18mg this morning. I seemed to react well to it.

Hey, react well in terms of you could feel a difference? Or, there were no bad effects?

Thanks

I started on 18mg around a week ago. For me personally I felt it quite well. It quietens the racing thoughts and allows me to keep attention/catch my self easier when I get distracted. It seem to be getting a little more effective each day. I haven’t had any negative side effects yet other than a little insomnia but it wasn’t too bad

I feel very mild effects of this after I started on Saturday just gone. By ok also skeptical it may be psychosomatic.

I've also found if I'm not drinking a hell of a lot more water that I'm getting headaches. Maybe that will pass I don't know.
