I am actually surprised that EU exempts all EU jets from the this.

Private jets will enjoy an exemption through classification of "business aviation" as the use of aircraft by firms for carriage of passengers or goods as an "aid to the conduct of their business", if generally considered not for public hire.

A further exemption is given for "pleasure" flights whereby an aircraft is used for "personal or recreational" purposes not associated with a business or professional use.

Nah the EU leaders use it a lot themselves.

Ursula von der Leyen have even flown 50 km. before where there also was a highway.

They are green for others not themselves.

I hung out with a guy who was rich. You wouldn’t believe how much free shit he got and not just inexpensive tote bag fillers. Designer clothes, watches, electronics,… ridiculous

Tge reality has always been rich people, being a massive minority, doing something has not a huge impact on the environment

Like if the 700 billionaires were the only ones using ICE vehicles, odds are we wouldnt have a massive oil industry destroying the planet

So, on paper, based on numbers, it does actualpy make sense to prioritize the behavior of the masses over the uber wealthy

We see the same with carbon credits, it actuqlpy makes WAYYYYY more sense, financially and in end result, to improve the carbon use of the global poor, via improved cooking equipment less reliant on wood burning, than it does to to change how rich people and nations treat forests

The carbon output of billions of campfires is actually worse, and easier to deal with

Same here. Taxing the millions of average flyers to reduce demand will have a greater and more permanent impact than leaving them untaxed and focusing on private jets, even if it seems on face to be structurally unfair

If doesn't make sense to pay for the paperwork to carve out an exemption for rich people. I agree with what you're saying, that it makes sense to target the actions of the masses, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it doesn't make sense to target the actions of the few as well. And it certainly doesn't mean that we should actively be carving out exemptions for them, especially in this case, where their use is exponentially higher and exponentially less efficient on top of that.

exemption is indeed a bit much, but the focus being on the masses makes sense.
