Really curious as to what season people liked the most.

same for me. 2 is good but it's a bit anti-climactic up until the last 2 episodes.

Some people do not like season 3 for some reason I have problems with it but it was the most fun to watch for me but the story is not as good as S1 but I think S1 will be the most consistent of the series since it's the first season but S3 is my personal favorite

Pretty much where I fall. 1 is best, remains the best. 2 is great, but the side plot with Eleven and Kali weakens it, although the Dustin/Steve portion re-elevates it to near perfection. 4 is behind 2, we'll see how it ends. 3 is far in the rear view except for the final episode, which is up there with the best of them (no apologies, I just dug the whole Battle of Starcourt, Dustin & Suzie's song, Billy's turn around with Eleven's help, etc, etc).

Only thing I disagree about is the song, I really thought that broke the tension and if they didn't include that it pretty much would have been a perfect episode to me.

That's actually why I like the song. That chance to take a breath after what felt like endless ramping of tension before launching back into the climax. Plus, it's just a complete surprise in the moment and everyone's expressions are funny as hell. I remember the first time I watched it and being so amped up by the time it occurred that tears were streaming down my face as I laughed. It never fails to make me giggle. But, I know a lot of folks don't like it and I get that. Just works beautifully for me.

Personally, I am very fond of the first 2 seasons and find the rest a bit overhyped. Other than Dear Billy and The Massacre at Hawkins Lab, the rest was only okay. S4 was good though it’s too long and I am not a fan of VFX stuff. S3 VFX were already disturbing to me. It looks like they made the show bigger and darker every season and lost what was special about it. S2 additionally has many powerful moments and was fundamental for many character dynamics. The only thing I liked the most about S4 is that there is a better sense of acceptance compared to S2-3 among the Hawkins gang

4, 3, 2, 1. I haven’t rewatched 1-3 in forever and it could change. But I feel like each season the new characters are great and old characters develop so well

I really can't choose, but I would go for 4, 3, 2, 1 probably. I'll probably change that order after my rewatch.

I think the same order as you! Season 1 is probably better than season 4, or at least has tighter storytelling, but I just personally enjoy this one more. The characters are better now than when they started out. Their relationships are more developed and engaging. So it's much more fun to watch!
I really liked that Dustin, Steve and Robin spent so much time together in season 3. They were a terrific trio (and I guess Erica was also there). But El, Mike, Max and Lucas were quite grating to watch that season. Hopper was also unusually frustrating and I didn't like the direction they took that character last season.

Hmm maybe I would switch out season 2 and season 3 after all. Even if the mall scenes were very enjoyable, the rest wasn't really as good as season 2. And season 2 has Bob!

Need to wait for season 4 to end before I include that but it’s definitely ahead of 3…

Season 3 was by far the weakest IMO. Tried to be too cutesy and fun, and I hated the Russian storyline. I liked the billy storyline, seeing El and Max become such good friends, and the final episode - but otherwise it wasn’t great.

Bruh what S3 was the best. The neon everywhere was awesome. And it was the most personal I believe. We got to see more personal moments between people

Season 1: It’s like lightning in a bottle. It has the best pacing and is iconic.
Season 4: This season brought the show back to its horror roots and is a lot more serious and compelling than seasons 2-3. The Hawkins crew storyline is probably the best the show has been since S1.
Season 2: It’s a lot more slower than other seasons but I really loved how it deepened the characters and was a logical extension of the first seasons story. It also has my favorite finale so far of the show.
Season 3: The tone felt a little inconsistent and the season was kind of light on plot progression. Also the mystery wasn’t as compelling as the others because we find out what’s going on pretty early. However the Billy stuff was the best part of the season.

Difficult question depending on what you look at:
Plot: 4, 2, 1, 3
Humor: 3, 4, 1, 2
Characters: 2, 1, 4, 3
Tone/Writing: 1, 2, 4, 3
Each season had strengths and weaknesses. In 3 I think a lot of the weaknesses were a bit stronger but it was still a lot of fun.

I agree with everything except your plot ranking. S1 also had the best and tightest plot. The plot S4 so far has been good, but (especially for the Russia storyline) some things are just too ‘out there’.
My ranking would be:
Plot: 1, 4, 2, 3
Humor: 3, 4, 1, 2
Characters: 2, 1, 4, 3
Tone/Writing: 1, 2, 4, 3
Horror: 4, 1, 3, 2 (although 2 was still excellent)
Villain: 2, 4, 3, 1
Acting: 1=2=3=4

Fair. I think I was mixing your 'Horror' and 'Plot' categories together but when you break those apart I agree wholeheartedly with your rankings.

Right now my favorites go 4 > 1 = 3 > 2. But I haven’t watched the first two seasons since they came out so there is definitely some recency bias there! Also if the question was “objectively best to worst” my opinion might be different lol!

season 1 - a classic
season 4 - a return to form, great mystery/reveal
season 2 - slow start, excellent finsih outside the lame backdoor pilot/spinoff they tried
season 3 - easily the worst season. not a fan of the russian plot , the story felt less intimate and too big scale which works against this genre. umpopular - but i dont like the never ending singing, it felt like it was too on the nose to get a cheer from the audience
I agree with everything except the singing. I loved that.
It’s been so long since I watched season 1-3, but I just remember feeling like this show was being dragged for money. And before starting S4, I braced myself, but holy shit it did return to form.
