Lead Horizons
The toxic skyline burns bright in my mind,
Light dancing through curtains of our poison,
Stunning but grim reminders of reckless abandon,
Our sins laid bare to us at dusk
The sky the colour of a fresh scar,
An ochre and rose gash stitching the stars and ground together,
It's beauty belying danger, like a venomous spider
Bright colours that serve to entrance and ward
What lies beyond the toxic wonderland promised at sunset?
Perhaps it's glowing lights serve as a warning sign, a doomsday,
A funeral pyre waiting just beyond the horizon,
A Sword of Damocles waiting to deliver the death blow
Or perhaps it will serve as a beacon, a flare
Something to guide our minds and shelter us from the dark
That will fuel our hopes and wills, stoke the fires of action
Our exposed crimes serving as a potent reminder
