Hey folks,

Does anyone know of post houses in NYC that use Premiere?

Thanks!

Speaking for advertising, it's a mixed bag. I work at a commercial post house with a lot of feature editors who use Avid but we also have a handful of editors who prefer Premiere. The post houses themselves are not usually exclusive. Based on your post history, I'd say if you were looking to move to a post house, what tool you use is irrelevant. I've never worked anywhere that only had one platform. Clients don't care and your employer won't care as long as they can book you good work. Again, this is speaking only in advertising. If you are interested in working on a major show or feature, then Avid is pretty standard.

My company is "mostly Avid" because most of the editors we have prefer Avid. But every job we start begins with a conversation of what platform we are going to use given the editors involved and the demands in regards to graphics and whatnot. Five years ago we had more Premiere editors and it was 50/50.

All this said, you can learn Avid fundamentals in a couple weeks. I've worked with a lot of "Premiere editors" who got the hang of Avid in a matter of time and some came to prefer it in the long run. If you are put in a position where you are second editor to a very talented senior editor who happens to use Avid, you'll be glad to know Avid.

i don't want to name any specifically, but from expierence like 90% of them work in premiere. the only job in a post house i've had that didn't use premiere was corporate banking.

Interesting! I assumed most of them used AVID.

Only places I've seen avid were Viacom and AMC Networks. My agent even told me not to bother learning Avid. Everyone but the big networks uses Premiere.

I think in NYC it’s hal-half. Advertisement it’s premiere mostly. Maybe some documentaries are working in premiere, but they’re mostly avid, TV shoes and features are all avid.

Wow, interesting to hear that many post houses are working in premiere! I was the same- surprised to hear about premiere. Last show I worked on was a while back but was all avid stuff (MC, pro tools etc)

All I’ve worked at can switch the rooms btwn Avid and Premiere based on client needs. I’ve never heard of an exclusively premiere post house.

We use Adobe pretty much exclusively. Have a couple Avid editors on the roster in case of emergency, but have only had to call on them once or twice in the last 5 years.

That’s just our experience — obvi it depends on the kind of jobs that shop takes on.
