Heating Bills about to go through the roof

Discussion

I just got off the phone with Enbridge.

ENBRIDGE IS RAISING THE RATE by 50% IN MY AREA

  • Was 20¢/m^3

  • Will be 30¢/m^3

None of this matters a lot during the summer, because the only thing most of us are heating is our bath/shower.

The winter is going to be another story altogether though, as we start firing up our furnaces for the winter.

Good luck, everybody!

They gotta bleed us for as much money as they can.

Record profits for corps, record inflation for us!

Lets go canada!

Full disclosure, I didn't read article or even click link. My comment is based strictly on the headline.

While it's impressive to look at revenue, it's more important to see the profit numbers to determine if a company is really price gouging.

That being said, most of these major corporations are posting record profits as well.

Not by 50%.

The bigger issue is that Russia-Ukraine is interfering with the normal supply of resources; and panicked consumers and opportunistic providers are jacking up prices.

Opportunistic Providers (greedy corporations).

Yet people will defend billion dollar corps and say shit like "free market."

It’s that delivery fee that gets me. It’s fine for them to deliver it to me but I can’t go pick it up in my own car

We successfully were approved for the greener homes grant. Bear in mind my house is super old and even after renos I’ll still be less efficient than most other homes - but in any case it will be a lifesaver with these new rates

Mate I really hate to tell you this, but that Greener Homes Grant is a bit of a nothing-burger.

I looked into it, so here's the story.

  1. Apply
  2. Be approved (you are here?)
  3. Pay $500 for a home inspection
  4. Be given a checklist of fixes you can do to qualify for the grant (total reimbursement between $125 and $5000)
  5. Fix one or more of the things, proceed to step 8
  6. Do not fix any of the things, proceed to step 7
  7. Say goodbye to your $500 from step 3
  8. Apply for reimbursement of $125/window, $250/door (other projects listed here in the "elegible retrofits" section)
  9. Realize that doors and windows which meet the government reimbursement minimum specifications cost a fuckton more than $125 and $250.
  10. Go back to step 7, or just don't proceed past step 3.
