I wrote poems about you

Poem

Hey J, did you know?

I wrote poems about you, years ago.

Filled up a whole diary with you on my mind

And what they said was true, pain does fade with time

Though once in a while I can’t help but look back

On all of those words I’m glad you never read

On how hard I tried to solve the puzzle of you

On my innocent wishes that never came true

While I’m someone new, in the dark on a Friday

Thoughts of you come visit to be typed away

Maybe it wasn't this week, but I do get some peace

Thinking one of those days you must have thought of me.

Hey J, you remember?

Our chat at your house, some day some September

You looked a bit sad when you talked ‘bout your ex

“The first love you truly never forget”

I've been lurking this sub quite a lot and got inspired. Recently I've been wanting to practice writing so I wanted to share something simple I made and would love some feedback. :)

Coincidentally, the subject of my affection (which inspires my poems as well) is also a "J".

She is alive and well, thankfully. She just doesn't love me.

And that's OK. No one is entitled to be loved by anyone.

We just need to learn how to adapt and live thru the pain until it gets numb enough.

Thank you for your poem. It hit home quite hard as well.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

I love the vantage point you used here. Almost as a letter that you took for a final thought. Atleast that's how I see it. I almost feel bad for J, as they missed out and they caused such pain that they didn't see you go through. You come out on the other side, some do and some don't, but you did and it's a bitter sweet victory. I just really was captivated about the way you rounded it out. It seems like everything finishes out well yet it's not good enough, and J will never see that whole truth.

Thank you very much for your kind words! You highlight some aspects I have not even fully put into words like those you used for myself, so thank you for your analysis, you're pretty much right :)

This hits me especially hard as J is the same initial as the subject of a lot of my own writing.

But I have books of things I've written about or to past lovers that are definitely best kept between me and the trees I occasionally read them to.

I hope you're right, I hope this pain does fade with time, my J, she died.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I cannot pretend to completely grasp your situation as I was lucky enough to not have had to deal with death of a lover. But I think deep down I knew eventually, if only slightly, shit will get better. The sucky part was having to figure out what to do with yourself until it does, accepting that it will take time, and to not make it actively worse in the meantime. Wish you the best, internet stranger, and a nice day.

Thanks a lot :') this is very encouraging.

And yes, I guess I've made it a habit to consider things from this perspective, not just in this context. Could also be more trivial things (For lack of a better example haha: "Well I can't tell what that stranger who I caught looking at me on the bus today was thinking... But among the last 5 random people this happened with, at least one probably just thought that I look cool")

Great start j think you can up the ante in a few areas with key word changes to elevate the language.
