Sweet to My Bittersweet

Poem

My lips form a bittersweet line
At all the little things you do
Princely traits that make you, you
Leaving me hoping, if you knew

Then you ask, why do I say bitter and sweet?
I say bitter for something I could never hold
I say sweet for the things you’ve made me feel
All of it leaves my heart a bittersweet taste

And I wonder then, who would be the one
To wake me from my brewing bitterness
And I wonder when could I have
All the sweetness the world had lacked

I had tried looking, but couldn’t find
I had tried waiting, and I still do today
I had tried praying my hope on morrows
But maybe you were just too sweet

Too sweet, that it left girls fawn over you
Too sweet, that my coffee forgot to be bitter
And for that, I’ve come a long way to find
That you’ve become the sweet to my bittersweet
