Artificial Lighting (or Fake Friendships)
I know you have to leave.
I know.
I stand there.
I force myself to stay still.
I watch you dive.
The water ripples where you disappeared.
Then it ripples again,
because I’ve disappeared.
I couldn’t stop myself.
I had to follow you.
I find myself in a Void.
A deep, dark Void.
It reminds me of your heart.
Then I remember:
I’m doing this for your heart.
You can’t go back to that Land of Misery.
I made you smile, once.
I can do it again.
You ignore me at first.
You’re very good at ignoring people.
But I scream and shout and sob.
I’m very hard to ignore.
You sigh: “I have to leave.”
“No, you don’t.”
And then it hits me:
She doesn’t have to leave.
She’s choosing to.
She’s choosing cold.
Monotony.
Nothingness.
She’s choosing it all over me.
Maybe I really as worthless as she says.
I’m the one dragging her down.
So, for the first time ever,
I let someone go.
She disappears again into blinding light.
It ripples once.
Not a second time.
Because I do not follow.
I sit there, in the dark.
I wait
I wait longer.
The, the light comes back
and… it isn’t her.
It’s someone very different
for her light does not blind
it chases the darkness away
