The Little Things / That Life

Poem

It's the little things that get you most

Like making cups of tea and toast

Laughter chiming through the kitchen

The playful banter; your devilish grin

A mix of giggling tangled limbs

The books we'd read, the woods we'd traipse

The way you'd gently cup my face

The things we'd paint; the games we'd play

Filling a house with things we'd made

Just listening about your day

That sound, your keys inside the lock

Jingling — jarred; just alarm clock

You are not real, you are not dead

(I made you up inside my head)

While being true, I now must grieve

That life my dream dared to conceive
