Update to My Boss Has Covid: I Contracted Covid

I took the day off on Monday to see if I would feel better. On Tuesday I felt worse, so I called out again and took an at-home test. It came up positive, I took a picture, then my partner brought me to the nearest clinic. Took like an hour and a half, but I got an official positive, and took a picture of that too. Sent both images to my boss, telling him I'd be out for the week.

We picked up our kid from camp ASAP and they also tested positive. They had to miss their first week of camp after having already experienced their first day. I allowed myself to get good and pissed.

My in-laws let me have a printer that they weren't using. I downloaded a worker's comp Form 18, filled it out, and mailed it along with a copy of my Covid positive test and a cover letter (I still have copies for myself!). There wasn't enough room on the form to detail why I knew my boss is at fault, but I still kept it short. I put that in the mail on Thursday.

On Friday, I e-mailed a scanned copy to my boss, informing him that I'd filed. He didn't talk to me about it, but did express his upset to the receptionists, Mr. We Need To Cut Down On Office Gossip.

"Do you think I did it on purpose?" he cried.

"No," they said.

"Do you think I was negligent?"

"Well, yeah."

(They had gotten Covid from him before I did)

I feel good about filing, but I'll be honest, I'm really dreading going in today. My boss can be vindictive and passive-aggressive af.

I, too, am at home today with Covid and we had to pull my kid out of camp as well.... boss is pissed at me for actually staying home with Covid saying "It's a desk job. You can handle it."

No motherfucker I will not answer 150 phone calls, billing flying out the door, getting payroll done, make a bank deposit (also exposing more of the public to me) while sitting here with a fever and coughing my brains out.

He thinks I'm a wimp and that I should just force myself to work anyway. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

The fatigue was the worst part of it for me! Just getting a drink was exhausting.

Of course they'll call you whatever they have to to guilt you into making them money. 🙄

I've had this shit 4 times now, and 2 of those times I did end up working while still positive because he whined and complained that there was no billing going out the door (surprise! I'm the only one in the entire company who can do my job!) and he ended up with the exact same symptoms as me, but refused to acknowledge he was sick and refused to take a Covid test. He literally will not acknowledge that it affects people greatly and thinks because he "only had the sniffles" that everyone else can just suck it up.

Meanwhile I also have a Covid-positive child at home who now has to isolate for 10 days.

I was told to bring her to work with me anyway and that she could sit in the file room on her tablet all day.... anything to get me physically in that office.

Meanwhile, I am beyond capable of doing my ENTIRE JOB from a laptop at home.

Make it make sense.

So I remember when I got covid that I didn't lose my taste until the 2nd week. If you do just remember that you can taste spice (like heat as in hot sauce). So if you find yourself going crazy from no taste some red pepper flake might help you taste just anything

Oh, jeez, I remember that too.

Funny enough, it all started with a lower backache. One so bad that lasted an hour that I thought I was suffering from a kidney infection. After all, it was the physical energy drainage, cold-symptoms and slight upset stomach (but the worst was that I suffered a head cold version of the Vid. Like, I had the weirdest kind of sinus and headache pain that kinda made me feel woozy/off kilter for a couple days). And finally, taste buds were dead for a full week plus.

Not to mention the loss of smell. Anyone else try to stick a BBW candle up to their nose and smell nada?

Also, sorry for the TMI. I only mention it all to see if anyone experienced those same things...

As for OP of the post, holy crap. Take care of yourself, and if you got the stomach-bug version of it, be careful and idle with your liquids!

never heard anybody getting workman's comp from covid.

My state has a section on their website just for it. Just need to prove that work is what got you sick. I wish I had taken pictures of the soiled napkins my boss continued to leave around the office, but I do have witnesses to back me up, that he kept coming into work while contagious.

can you prove the boss had covid with documentation?

I have a company e-mail from him admitting he was Covid positive and still intended to come into the office.

could be the smoking gun if you can figure out how to get that in front of the right people

I'm confused what you think will happen. The states that expanded workers comp for covid have a pretty narrow lens for coverage and 22 of them don't have expanded coverage at all.

It's at least worth a try? It's not like I have to pay a fee or anything. The boss refuses to pay sick leave, so I have to compensate the loss of half my paycheck however I can.

I thought this sub was about taking action against employers? I've noticed an increase in this sort of defeatist attitude.

maybe because so many on here just talk out their ass.

Yes!

It's not defeatist, I was just letting you know that in a LOT of states this won't work for you. Presumably you would then look up whatever state your in and see the law.

I'm quite literally supporting you with some info here.

Also I'm pretty certain your boss cannot refuse to pay sick pay for covid.

Research.

I will look into that, thank you.
