A Lie That Only Hurts If You Believe It

Poem

I heard you whisper and the words gripped so tight.

I tried to breathe in with all my might, but I

Tripped and stumbled over ever little mumble

As I’m choking on every little word tonight.

I know I said that I would hold on, baby.

I know I said that I had the strength to grasp,

But emptiness is too hard to handle

When nothingness is all that seems to lasts.

/

I thought I heard you whisper sweetly.

I thought I felt something to be brave.

Forever’s just a concept, vaguely

Shrouded with flowers for my grave.

So tell me, darling, what’s it going to be?

Are you going to try another night?

Fill the holes with empty promises,

Or are you ready to give up on the fight?

/

Tattered and torn we sway to the wind.

Fleeting and feeling waiting to begin

This new life that comes with new lies,

Telling yourself you’re going to be alright.
