Letters from a Poet - Letter 8. On the Philosopher's Seclusion
Letter 8. On the Philosopher’s Seclusion
Seneca, I must admit it’s been tough-
Being an anchorite when not on call.
But, although the seclusion be rough-
Philosophy, our Master, lends to all.
Though my path be but guided by Chance,
And the gifts of Fortune be rare and scarce.
I will do what I can to not be trapped.
“… dashed on the rocks.” Just missed me by a glance.
Moderation in all things – Love and work.
You said, “...the soul is worthy of wonder.”
And I endeavor to clean up the fork,
Between a noble peace and wrath’s thunder.
Of those quiet workers toiling silent-
In between both the shadow and the soul.
Let’s thank the Gods that Philosophy guides us.
And, like the Gods, that it is immortal.
Farewell.
