Capricorn
Capricorn
The ground is all that’s left for me.
No dream of flight carries my nights.
I hold my map between my eyelashes.
Each morning its sky enters me
and I make my way through the crowds.
I gamble off my sleep. I rise to the surface of my face
when I speak to strangers, then I wander without reasons
into the asylum of the trees, rooted to this earth
whose belly clutches at my ankles.
I fall in order to stay faithful to the light,
in order to recall the mountain’s jagged hardness,
its sheer sides that shelter my shadow’s memories
which I carry with me like household gods
in this land that won’t remember me,
that offers joy and pain and asks
for nothing else but my cold body
once I’m through.
