So who's going nowhere up north?

My plans to travel across the pennines this month are pretty scuppered at the moment thanks to all three routes being closed. Anyone else stuck behind closures thanks to these unprecedented water shortages?

I made it off the Leeds Liverpool just ahead of all the shutdowns. Out on the rivers for a while now thankfully.

Which river? We're looking for somewhere different for next summer so would like to hear your thoughts, TIA.

Headed through Leeds and on towards York and Ripon, no water shortages and very scenic.

I’m currently heading up the Oxford south, it’s tough going in parts been a foot or 2 down in some parts

Yeah I’ve been at Congleton waiting for about a month now so I’m turning back and going to Chester instead.

That's on the macc right?

Macc is always shallow but I can imagine it's a bit ridiculous at the moment, is it worth a venture down on the kayak (observing any closure, obviously, wouldn't want to anger the CRT) to see some ridiculous lowness?

We came down Marple Locks just before they closed in June, because we'd planned to go over the hills this month. After the Huddersfield Narrow closure was announced last week, I decided that the Rochdale was our only option and brought the departure date forward.

I got as far as Fairfield Junction and was about to descend Ashton Locks into Manchester. Fortunately, a helpful CRT chap, who was letting some water down to fill some empty pounds, made a phone call and got the news about the Rochdale closing, ahead of its announcement later that day. Thanks to him I made the decision to abort and return to Marple Aqueduct. Otherwise we might have ended up stuck in the Manchester area!
