Gabba GA seating or standing areas

My mate and I are heading to Brisbane this weekend for Lions vs Blues and we rather stupidly left the purchasing of tickets to the game until late. There are only single allocated seats available, which is less than ideal - but that's the price of stupidity ($64 a head at the moment).

So, rather than sitting apart, can we buy a seat each randomly, and then go sit in the GA section? Or will security make us go sit in our allocated seats? Alternately, are there any GA standing areas we can stand in and watch the game without being hassled?

I've never been to the Gabba, so I'm not familiar with the ground and seating layout, and I'm also wary of any possible COVID-19 rules lurking around.

GA is still allocated seats, but there are definitely communal type areas you can stand in, just not all of them have the greatest view of the action - since this is what the seats are for.

Just make sure your tickets are in sections nearby each other so that you can actually get to each other or your seats from both areas. You can't circumnavigate the Gabba, top or bottom, on game day.

GA is still allocated seating? Seems...odd.

I know at Marvel/MCG my member entry ticket has had an allocated seat for General Admission on it - but it's not really an allocated seat, the section is still very much first in best dressed. Is it that type of situation?

As long as there's somewhere we can stand/sit, have a beer and see the game we'll be happy.

Last time I had GA was 2020 so it might be skewed, but there's seating marshals at most section entrances to point you to your seats.

The first in best dressed method just sounds like a recipe for chaos, I can't imagine that's anything other than a clusterfuck if that's how Melbourne stadiums work. Whenever I've had GA for Gabba or Metricon, it has been 100% allocated seating, and you're either in your specific seat (or have arranged to swap with someone), or are standing at the bar or something.

Chances are you will be able to find a spot to sit together after the first quarter by keeping an eye out for seats that aren't filled. No one official checks once you are in. The people are more there to help you find your seat, not police seating.

If you do sit together in someone else's seat you just act confused and bashful. I mean that happens anyway, so no big deal.

Even sell out games are never really actually packed full.

There are also places you can stand and watch. Not as good as the G and not as easy to get around the stadium, but doable.

Enjoy the game, I might see you there.

Sweet, I think that's what we'll aim to do. Just find somewhere and hope for the best.

No idea how many of you there are but there's normally some seats in the nosebleeds you could sit together at after the first bounce when they stop checking tickets. Also buy kid tickets $14 no one cares.

There are two of us. I know often what Ticketmaster says and what the reality is are different, but I can't buy two seats together anywhere at the ground at any price point.
