On the 2nd of August, 1858, Emma of Waldeck and Pyrmont, was born. She was only 20 years old when she married the 60 year old Willem III, and becomes Queen-regent for underaged Wilhelmina since the latter couldn’t ascend yet. Emma was also intensely popular with the Dutch people as Queen mother.
