The Phoenix That Orbits The Stars
Fire
Like a phoenix that orbits the stars
I reach out to warm my wing
Only to catch fire again
Embers
At first she feels like a universe
But my lover is only a star
She flickers and flares in the void
And my world revolves around her
What fickle inferno could hold a candle
To the honeyed heat of her naked flame?
I worship this star as a sun goddess
Like the dawn depends on her pleasure
I know she’s fated to fade
But her radiance blinds me
Submerged in the silk of her sunbeam
I forget she is just a mirage
And let her gleam into my shadows
Her light seeps through the cracks in my mind
Illuminating the broken pieces
She sees me completely
So I trust in her magic and make a wish upon this star…
And she falls
She goes cold
Embers sputter and hiss from her kiss
Until her silence explodes
Into a black hole
Tearing me down to atoms
She scatters my matter through space and time
Too lost to see another shine
And although her light is gone
A bright pain lingers on
Like a twinkle remains in faraway skies
Long after the fire of a distant star dies
Ashes
My ashes are tangled in stardust
Mixed up in the snow of her nuclear fallout
I’m hung up on a fallen star…
Would you call that star-crossed or crucified?
I float through the abyss she hollowed out in me
As gravity pulls me back together
Piece by piece like cosmic debris
Space junk in the ether
A forgotten satellite
Spinning on like the days
Trapped in endless orbit
I’m circling everything
And falling towards nothing
So I stargaze from my open casket
And all I see are old flames
Zombie constellations that hypnotise me
They smoulder ghostly green
Like interstellar funeral pyres
I can’t see past them
A shell of icy daggers entombs me while I drift
Frosting over my heart like a crystal mace
Protection from shooting stars…
They shoot to kill
I won’t fall for their midnight shimmer again
Their glow is predatory; Anglerfish in the deep
No lovely lantern can lure me now
My eyes are shut tight
As I sleepwalk through empty space
I like the quiet
Sparks
Until the moment I first meet you
And feel the cosmos spark anew
You offer your name on molten lips
And draw me out from behind an eclipse
Oceans of starlight could never compare
To the sweet clementine sparkle of your laughter
So warm that it melts my glacier ramparts
And your moonlight smile floods into my dreams
Like northern lights in the arctic night
Seducing the heavens and the depths of me
You lean in to whisper a secret
And colours erupt in the black
Your voice ignites nebulas
I would offer my blood to your gods
Just to hear my name in your mouth
I would offer my tongue up to Venus
Just to hear you softly sigh
Your breath on my neck is a solar storm
So magnetic that we come together
Until galaxies collide
And your celestial beauty hits me like an asteroid
Sending me reeling
Through a halo of rapture
Into your eyes
Twin supernovas exploding in the darkness
And I awaken… Burning
Fire
You’re more than some star
For better or worse
You might be my whole universe
