Change

Poem

I stayed afloat on the surface

In pieces and in wholes,

A tiny drop of consciousness

In the ocean of souls.

I endured the swell of ripples,

And feared the crashing waves,

Contented myself with shallow tides

In the darkness of the caves.

I despised the dance of storms

And the world beyond the "strange",

Never ventured upon the vessel

That swam on the tides of change.

I rose and sank along the tide,

As though it was foolish to even dare,

And when the waves came crashing down

I was faced with true despair.

Now I'm washed into oblivion

My voice hasn't reached the stars,

The change has left me riddled with holes

And marred my soul with scars.

The struggle is carved upon my bones

And I know what I had missed,

Because never did I truly live,

All I did... was just exist.
