This makes me really want a skateboarding game that looks like this, great work!

Haha thanks, the ground is probably a bit too fucked up to skate tho lmao

Honestly for a second here I thought it was straight from Cyberpunk 2077’s camera mode. Awesome job

Reminds me of route kanal from Half-Life 2

Haha thank you! Everyone’s making these game comparisons to games I’ve never played 😅

Yeah it’s pretty much all assets from Ian Hubert, just an exercise in kitbashing as I’ve been trying to sort out my asset browser library.

Cool and good job if you are starting out, but you made absolutely nothing in this scene. I can see that all of these assets are Ian Hubert’s, besides the HDRI. At the very least credit him next time.

Yeah it’s made up of a bunch of assets but honestly you’re being weirdly aggressive. Kitbashing is a super common practice and the exact reason Ian shares his assets in the first place. This was a simple scene constructed to practice composition and lighting (two of the most important pieces of any image or artwork) and nothing more. I’m not trying to sell anything, or flaunt the models as my own. I’m just sharing an image. You’re taking Reddit too seriously.

You did pretty good. I'd just move the camera slightly so that the buildings in the distance are framed by the bridge. And break a bunch of the railing panels.

1
DummiesBelowOP•

Thank you! That’s a really good call on framing the buildings under the bridge, good eye!

Maybe also put the puddle where it can reflect the buildings and sky? Overall I think it's pretty good.

all I said was to credit him next time, and good job if you’re just starting out, don’t really know how that could be “aggressive” or “too serious”...

So? That's like telling a painter he didn't manufacture his paints, and that he should give credit to the store he purchased them at.

The entire purpose of the existence of asset kits is so you can save the time you'd waste modelling everything and spend it on making something that's greater than the sum of the parts you've used, and it seems to me this person has done exactly that.

It's not even a similar comparison.

MArXu5•

No it’s more like a photo collage, or duplo Lego blocks, except he didn’t add any creativity to it at all. That’s why I said great start if you’re a beginner, and kind of strange to not say anything about him, considering this scene was probably made in 15 minutes.

Idk man, that might be true if Ian Hubert's already posted art/scenes that looks similar to this. I'm unaware because I haven't followed his stuff for a while, so I can't argue about that. But unless someone's goal is to just get better at modelling and/or texturing, I don't see what's wrong in using pre-made assets, even exclusively, for making your own art.

Lmao your other comment saying you’re not being aggressive and here you are saying I didn’t “add any creativity”.

Reappropriating images, or assembling assets into a scene requires creativity on how the composition comes together, which, like I said, is the most important part in art. Just because you modelled your grates and ladders doesn’t make you’re scene any more creative. I’m not a beginner, I’ve been using Blender for like 7 years now, I know how to create my own assets. Just because I didn’t go out and photoscan (an extremely “non-creative” process btw) these assets doesn’t diminish the scene.
