Other Lake District-esque places for walking?

I recently had a ball of a time walking from town to town within the Lakes and am inspired to visit other parts of the world where a similar lifestyle would be possible.

In the Lakes I would stay a night or a few in one town and hit the fells in the area before carrying onto the next place and doing it all again, and I’d love to try something similar elsewhere in the world. Any suggestions?

I do a bit of remote work, so there is the need for a semi-stable internet connection, which was not always offered in the Lakes.

Thanks in advance!

Try over the other side of the M6 over the Yorkshire Dales national park. Personally it’s even better than the Lakes. You’ve also got the north Pennines to the north, there’s also the Galloway forest park just over the boarder which is basically a big grizedale forest but without the crowds and too the south you’ve got silverdale and arnside and just east of Lancaster you have the trough of bowland. All easily accessible from the M6.

Great thinking! They’re on my list. Cheers.

Try just north of the border - either side of the M6. Between Moffat and Stranraer there are some beautiful areas (and further across towards the A1 from Moffat as well). Much quieter than the lakes.

Also recommend the Highlands although it has a very different feel - but you can definitely do the town to town aspect you describe.

Going further afield, I can't recommend new zealand's south island enough. Or north island for that matter.

I appreciate your response! I’m really keen on the Highlands - do you have any particular recommendations there?

Look into the great glen way and the west highland way.

We’re just back from ten days on the south west coast path, walking from Mousehole Marazion. The scenery is breath taking, and bits of it a little challenging in fun ways; scrambling over granite boulders.

There’s lots of Neolithic sites in the area if you do a few walks inland, stone circles, standing stones, dolmen/quoits; and some amazing abandoned tin mines too.

There’s also a decent site for the national trails here that helps you plan trips https://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/en_GB/

We had decent internet connection in all of the b&bsee we stopped at.

Edit: just noticed you said “in the world”. We also did some walking in Slovenia, in the Julian Alps around Triglav national park. One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. There’s also a list of long distance European paths from country to country here https://www.era-ewv-ferp.org.

Good luck with your walking!
