My grandma who helped raise me is dying of brain cancer
This is the first poem I've written in years but I used to like using them to help process my emotions and my grandma always really loved them. * * *
Who you once were is gone,
You are now an echo,
Your personality all wrong,
You have been with me since the get-go,
I don't know how to let go,
I miss having your strength to lean upon,
I don't know if I'm strong enough to forego,
Breaking down without your love to depend on,
But I must persist until I'm at deaths door and thereon,
I can be content in knowing I've been tough enough,
Then run relieved into your arms and be finally gone,
Until then it will be rough,
I must be content in your memory, to hold it in my heart,
To see you in everything within me while we are apart.
Edit: formatting, I can't figure out how to make the stanzas read right.
