How Do I Secure a Buddy Seat to the Grab Bar?

I have seen several photos of Ruckuses that have a Schwinn noseless bicycle seat attached to the Ruckus's rear grab bar. For example. I want to do this, but haven't found any detailed instructions or descriptions of the parts required. The best I have found is this post from 2008, but it is not detailed and the photos no longer appear on the page. Can anyone provide more details or a link to full instructions? Part numbers would be especially helpful.

Will attaching a seat to the grab bar prevent me from opening the seat? I have an under-seat storage compartment and need to be able to open the seat. This post shows the Schwinn seat flipped up, but is this secure? I would be concerned about my passenger getting dumped.

Looking at pics of the seat on eBay, there is a mount bolted to the bottom of the seat that’s intended to attach to a bike seat post. Unbolt that and you have a place to bolt something into using either the same bolt or a bolt the same size, longer or shorter, whatever. Then you need a clip, like the clip that holds the original ruck seat to the frame, that allows it to flip up. They have stuff like that at any big box hardware store. You might even be able to order those clips from Honda and use them. If you want access to the storage, the seat will have to flip up. You can tighten down the clips with rubber insulation to get it so the flip up action is a little stiffer. Just get creative and you might have to modify some parts to get it to work. You’re going to trade secure-ness for flippy-ness. I think you can get it to work.

I’ll take picture and post them in here of my buddy seat. As for being able to flip the seat up to open your storage.no you won’t be able to open it unless you find some new way to secure the seat. You have to zip tie it twice to your frame or your seat will be wobbly and the passenger will fall off

Thanks, I would appreciate photos. I have seen others use the Honda seat hinges, which I think is supposed to allow the buddy seat to be flipped up? I still wonder about how secure that is.

Why install a bicycle seat if you are wanting to be able to carry a passenger ?

Instead install a rear carrier & add a seat pad. I did this ordering it from Steadygarage.com for $148.

Just checked & they are currently out of stock. The rack works perfectly & they also carry seat pads. I leave the rack in place as I often will strap down a 7 gallon HTC cargo box. The carrier does not interfere with using my underseat bag.

"Just checked & they are currently out of stock."

That's basically why.

Just discovered Steadygarage has both the black & red carriers back in stock but the white is sold out.

I wondered if you were still curious & remembered. When I came upon the fact they were currently back in stock, thought you may like a heads up.

The best thing about them is it takes 10 minutes to install & remove. I was forced to get the red although wanting black but have gotten used to red. Use it continually.
