Born last, gone first. (Profanity warning)

Poem

I used to think I was your favorite son.

The baby of the family, youngest of four.

How wrong I was.

You wanted different than who I am.

An ideal image of a successful child.

I couldn’t give you that.

Now my brother and his new girlfriend are invited on trips but not me.

Because he’s normal, in a “normal” relationship.

I’m too much of a burden to keep around.

You must be tired of playing pretend.

Well I’m fucking exhausted from improvising.

The light in my eyes that you loved so dearly, you’ll never see again.

It hasn’t died, you just don’t deserve the luxury.

I hope that makes it hurt so much worse.

Mother.

(Writer’s note: I understand this is edgy, and I considered not posting it cause it’s really not my forte. The reason I ultimately chose to put it out there is because I feel it does a good job expressing the early days and emotions of falling out with parental figures, whatever the reason may be. Feel free to let me know how you agree or disagree.)
