Fellow Mitski fan! A lot of the stuff I write also blooms from a “drunk walk back home” when I’m listening to her, I’m so happy to see you here hah. And I really enjoy this! I love the whole imagery you created here: How even the literary metaphor the speaker comes up with is of a businesswoman, how her room (maybe office?) is painted in gray out of her control because she herself is desperate to see color, how she is still in that same room when it is dawn. It really paints the life someone lives with a mind and material reality curated by capitalism. Though, the last three lines are my favorites: I interpreted “reel” with a double meaning, since it sounds like “real”. To me, those she loves try to ground her to reality with their rods, because her favorite songs she wants to sing are maybe too childish or dreamy for their world. So, she bets on losing dogs not only with the people she chooses to keep in her life, but also her choices in life also seems as “betting on losing dogs” fro

I feel myself only being tied up with knots,

Like a businessman who can’t determine the costs,

The walls in my room are all painted in gray,

But I try to see color with each passing day,

The light through my window is clouded by dawn,

So this day I pray I won't sing my favorite song,

The ones that I love reel me in with their rods,

Cause on these days I bet on these losing dogs.
