Did Apple just crashed and burned with their "satellite connectivity" announcement?

The SpaceX-TMobile announcement was big, but Apple's keynote will blow that out of the water. I've ALREADY heard about this from someone who doesn't actively follow SpaceX and just has an iPhone.
In a few short years, nobody will remember how the SpaceX-TMobile announcement took place a few weeks before Apple. All that will be remembered is how Apple was first to market with the product, and everyone else is "copying" them. Apple is actually poised to look really really good here.
Alternatively, this feature will be lackluster and undermine Apple's stance on Sat communication. This is using the Globalstar network and only for emergency communications. Where as Tmobile's SpaceX starlink setup is for any basic sms messages and maybe phone calls.
Being first to market has its benefits and Apple is great at product launches but it's been a long time since Apple launches had the cache of the Steve Jobs days. And the performance of this service will not meet the subconscious expectations of an "anywhere service" that even at txt msg only level the starlink backed one will.
Also do we know if this requires the newest iPhone to use it or does it work with software upgrade to existing phones like the SpaceX backed service?
It will be interesting to see if globestar can handle the huge influx in traffic. I doubt their service ever had this many possible clients before. But good for globalstar in finding a way to survive as mega constellation like starlink, one web, and later Kepler eat their entire market.
People often forget how insanely powerful apple as a company is. And how good they are at using every little detail to their advantage.
That's just, like, your opinion, man.
