The OSINT guys, especially WarMonitor3, mentioned this yesterday.
So can you clarify something for me and perhaps the rest of us that a curious? Is WarMonitor3 actually fairly reliable? Because there has been some debate here and on other subreddits related to the war that he either is mostly reliable or he's just some clickbait idiot. I just want this debate settled once and for all.
I'd understand if he is mostly reliable but when he does screw up and accidentally misinform or the statement is slightly off (wrong town, different area, the map didn't change THAT much etc) he does at least apologise and admit the error. I'm sure it's happened to the most reliable accounts, I mean sometimes they'll announce that a city got liberated but then a couple hours later it turns out to have been a small village with the same name and even that shares the name with 2 other towns.
I personally think that he is mostly reliable. He has good sources with the Ukrainian military guys and must speak either Ukrainian or Russian or both. Expat maybe? He gives both good news and bad news and is careful to say that things are rumors. If he was clickbait, I'd think that he'd only be giving good news. He's biased and pro-Ukraine but he isn't clickbait like that Canadian guy a few months ago LARPing as a volunteer in the Kherson region. WarMonitor3 and some of the other OSINT guys are the ones who outed him. And the info is going to be a bit of a fog because it is war.
The other account that I follow and have found helpful BTW is Maria Drutska. I believe she works for the MOD. Given her wit, she's likely part of communications. She's good at summarizing the information and dropping some cryptic hints of vaguely what to focus on (without really giving anything away.)
Ukranians in Donetsk: They're back, and they're pissed!
Does it mean only paved road into Izium has been cut off?
Izium has already been taken, it would appear they abandoned it in a panic.
Did I sleep through the whole event????
Yeah, things appear to have gone crazy last night, Russians seem to be abandoning the entire front.
Yeah I thought "They've done well but it's best to lower expectations on this a little, it's not like the Russians are going to suddenly abandon places with out a fight and the map will massively change. Time for bed!"
(Next day, wake up and check on my I-pad)
"...what the fuck is going on? Is this really happening? Holy crap."
Dude, now is not the time to sleep! We are making history
3 hours, it went from “under attack” to “hey here’s a video of us in the city centre lol”.
It’s amazing.
Do you remember Germany - Brazil in 2014? You go to the toilet for a quick piss and you miss three goals. Same in this offensive.
I apologise to Brazil for implicitly comparing them to Russia.
Time to update your beliefs from the last few months. Remember what we were told by the West:
- Russia has massive losses. Lacking personell. Big dessertations, contracts extended, soldiers tired and pissed. Tens of thousands of Ukrainians being trained by the West. Billions in weapons sent, way more arriving soon™.
Told by Russia:
- Actually Ukraine weak, they just fail with the new weapons, seeing as Russia keep gaining more ground despite big Ukrainian defense attempts. Ukraine has secret massive losses. Kherson offensive is disaster. All Western propaganda hype, Ukraine can't pull it off.
And what have we seen? Well, Ukraine kept losing ground. Kherson offensive is late and slow. Looked like Russia was kinda right.
Except, Russia was tricked. (By their own propaganda no less) Their army still sucks, defenses were paper thinned out in Kharkiv, while Ukraine just got reinforced with the new trained troops, and the Kharkiv offensive now has massive gains. Kherson offensive was a slow feint to draw in troops, Russia just wasted their defenses there while losing much more in the east. And there's already new possibilities for getting Kherson more efficiently.
fun little addendum: supposedly, around ~60 RU tanks were abandoned in Izium for Ukraine to capture
Looks like it happened very quickly over night. They routed, their escape was getting closed off, the only road out was covered by artillery on both north and south sides. They couldn’t even take trucks with them, they had to flee so quickly they left everything behind and ran for it.
I can't believe how fast this has happened. I wish we had more video from the russian side showing the panic, but of course they would never show it.
Putin gave the order to take all of Donetsk by this Thursday. Do you think they are on track to do it? 🥹
brilliant reverse move - he meant abandon Donetsk ASAP
It's free real estate!

Every town name, spoken in panic as they fell over the course of months, now returning to Ukraine in hours.
Russia, you're finished.
Kuputed
And the front will soon be much shorter, but with Russia scattered and Ukraine constantly making education adjustments.
