Google Books vs Kindle

I recently got my Nexus 7 and so far love it. I already owned a Kindle touch so I will be using it a lot for e-reading. So far I'm unimpressed with google books. The price and availability of titles seems to be the same, but features like the dictionary, highlighting, and note taking are only available for Kindle Books and the Kindle reader. I ask, is there any advantage of Play books over Kindle books?

I would stick with Kindle books simply because there is an application available on every platform you could ever want along with dedicated ereaders. Amazon's selection also tends to be better, so I don't see any reason to buy books from the play store.

TL-DR: Read Kindle books on your Nexus 7.

You think THAT's too long? What do you usually read? Just the "."?

The only advantage on Google Books is being able to read books on a PC/Mac using Adobe Digital Editions (if it's a protected/purchased book). If it's a public domain book, you can download an epub instead. Also, having books in the cloud saves some space vs storing books onto the device. Though I'm not 100% sure it doesn't store something on the device so don't quote me on that.

Outside of that, the app itself is sparse and lacks a lot of features other ereading apps have standard (like the ones your mentioned). Not to say it won't be updated eventually, but as of right now, it sucks.

I'd say that since you have a Kindle touch, you might as well stick with the Kindle app. Doesn't it sync your progress between the app and ereader automatically?

EDIT: Looks like Google Books downloads the book to the device for offline reading so that's just another reason not to pick it over Kindle.

You know there's a Kindle for PC/Mac app right?

I don't use Kindle because they don't support epubs (last time I checked) and I didn't feel like converting my library just to support their proprietary format. So no, I didn't know. :)

Either way I don't see reading books on a monitor as very beneficial no matter what the method. I think the OP already owning a Kindle is more of a deciding factor than anything.

Yea it seems to. Like you said I think I'm sticking with the Kindle App for ebooks.

Also, does anyone know if there's a way to use google books to read ebooks you already have?

There is no way to do that for now. It was a huge bummer to me

I don't see how Google can expect their Books app and market to neat Amazon when you can merge your own library with books purchased from them.
