Headphones for meetings

Headphones - Open Back

I have been using a mono headset for meetings, because I don't like the closed in sound of my own voice.

I was thinking of just getting a pair of Grado SR80x, and desk mic. Can anyone tell me if the open back nature of these headphones will help my own voice sound?

I own the SR80s, correct me if I’m wrong though.

“Closed in sound of my own voice” refers to your ears hearing your own muffled voice while wearing closed backs with large over ear cups right?

If so, pretty much all open backs (especially Grado’s design) will allow you to hear your voice as you normally would without headphones, so no more muffled voice.

Though I feel like you shouldn’t worry too much with your own voice man, I’m sure it sounds fine! Hope you enjoy your meetings more with whatever headphones you buy.

Yeah, you get me. That muffling effect sounds so boomy to me.

Might just get the SR125x, unlikely to regret it by all accounts.

Tax deductible too.

Edit : for others searching I ended up with SR80X headphone, a Razer Siren Mini mic and NVidia Broadcast noise reduction software.

Not 100% sure about this but wouldn't open backs leak the sound coming from the other end of the call and cause an echo in the meeting?

I don't think the mic will pick that up. Most meeting apps are able to filter out background noise.

Worth thinking about though thank you.

Actually the desk mic does pic it up, not very much but you were right. However I use the NVIDIA Broadcast app, which uses my GPU to filter out background noise. Works fine.

Awesome! Glad it worked out for you.

Sennheisers seem to be the most open openbacks, being the most advanced in lightweight & breathable ergonomics.
