Help me find an EXV
Alright, I'm desperate. I need a Danfoss ETS 6-08 for a cool project. Nobody has them, and nobody around here can even get them for me.
Anyone know of a way to get one? I don't want to pay an arm and a leg, but maybe just an arm? Or a leg?

Take one off a scrapped minisplit
This particular EXV is EXTRAORDINARILY small - just about half a ton with 410A at full bore. Do they even make mini-splits that small?
The target market for them is appliances like refrigerators, window shakers, portable ACs, dehumidifers, etc., but finding a fridge in the US new enough to have one but already be scrapped seems unlikely to happen, and portable equipment in the USA is usually price-point garbage that still has a cap tube.
Looks like vaillant uses them... Found this: https://www.ersatzteilfachmann.de/Vaillant-Heiztechnik/Vaillant-Ersatzteile-Heizung/Vaillant-Expansionsventil-elektron-ETS-6-08-0020210631--270501.html
I've found a few European parts shops claiming to have it that cancel my order due to unavailability shortly after placing it. But I haven't tried these folks yet!
Even if they can't, looks like the Vaillant part number brings up a bunch of hits I haven't tried yet. Thanks for the pointer!
You can get 9,000 btu output outdoor units. I looked up your valve and it looks very similar to common mini-split valves. The coil even looks like it has the same colour coding. The mini's I work on have either a 5 or 6 wire coil.
I don't imagine 1/4 ton size difference would matter as you'd be controlling the valve based on pressure and superheat, if it were even grossly oversized, the valve would just close more. (There's 480 steps).
The ETS 6 is available in several sizes that all look the same aside from tube sizes on in/outlet, so that would certainly explain the visual familiarity.
The -08 is already a little oversize for me, and the compressor is BLDC with good speed control, so practical turndown on it is on the order of 25% of full capacity. Obviously having all the control you can get is important down there.
I think I managed to find one from a UK supplier (none of the German suppliers would export to USA, but I have a colleague in UK who can forward). The Vaillant part number someone else posted proved quite useful.
