Why do so many people wrongly believe in the “rapture”

Christians will be here for the 7 years of tribulations. We will be here until the very end when Jesus returns unless we are killed from the tribulations happening.

Jesus does not take people with him until the end. The believers who are still alive and those who are dead will rise, but not until the end!

We are not going to escape the persecution and destruction coming for the world. Our faith will be tested when the antichrist demands people to worship him or be killed/imprisoned.

We will be here for the famine. We will see the suffering! But why would you want to miss this anyway? It’s like the end of the movie!

Covid should have shown people just how society can be turned upside down by persuasion and pressure from the media and government.

With all due respect, nobody can know for sure what will happen, or whose interpretation is correct. Everyone can put forth 100 reasons why their interpretation of Revelation and End Times is right, but ultimately, no one knows.

And as for Covid, it's perfectly reasonable to ask society to change when, you know, there's an ongoing threat.

17
SecretOvercatChristian•

Pretty much this. All sorts of different positions on the rapture and the tribulation have been debated for hundreds of years with no one being able to bring people to a consensus. I try not to center much of my beliefs and expectations around it.

3
JHawk444Evangelical•

This is a little ridiculous. Even people who believe in the rapture, including myself, understand that things can play out a little differently. No one knows exactly how it's going to work out until it happens. We can speculate and have firm convictions, but at the end of the day, Revelation is a hard book to interpret. To say..."why would you want to miss this anyway? It's like the end of a movie," seems very immature and lacking in a basic understanding of human suffering. Clearly, you haven't suffered much if you think it's something to look forward to.

It does make sense to look forward to Christ putting an end to the wickedness and bringing us to himself.

Agree. The Jews missed Jesus. Those who were very religious had their eyes on scriptures, studying it. Yet they missed it.

This was still in the old covenant because Jesus was not yet glorified - therefore this is a shadow of things to come.

Revelation 13 says that power was given to the beast to make war with the saints and overcome them. So, it depends on whether you think the saints are the church, as a whole, or just those redeemed during the tribulation period.

2 Thessalonians 2:3

“Let no man deceive you by any means, for that Day shall not come, unless there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition”

Jesus will not return until AFTER we witness the antichrist, the son of perdition. The son of the devil who will demand people worship him. Some “Christians” will convert to satan worshippers and go to hell. Please be warned!!!! If you can’t make the choice now to choose Jesus, please know it will be harder when you are being pressured to get the mark of the beast. They’re going to lie and convince you Jesus isn’t coming. They’re going to say it’s “for the good of the world”. Be ready to spot the deception before it happens!

You are only somewhat correct like in the last sentence but nobody is left behind, there is no rapture we all share the same Judgement Day. Saved people are capable of spiritually turning away. If “saved” people take the mark of the beast they are going to hell. It’s as serious as it sounds, but people don’t want to face their fate so head on. We have the choice though and the clock is ticking. It will be better to be beheaded than spend eternity in hell. It’s just one very terrible moment of pain but don’t forsake your soul.

Matthew 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

If there is no rapture, then the snatching up of the church doesn't happen until sometime during or at the end of the tribulation. My problem is that the snatching up won't come "like a thief in the night." There will be lots of fulfilled prophecies leading immediately up to either mid or post tribulational rapture (or deliverance).

There are some prophecies about how we can know the eschatological event is near, but to put that event in the middle or end of the tribulation, means we should almost be able to calculate the day once we are in the tribulation. I don't think that fits with Jesus's teaching.

To me, those who have voluntarily believed in the church age disappear with the Lord. There are seven years. During that time people can take the mark of the beast or not. The remainder will live in a world where they witnessed the rapture occur. Those that do not take the mark of the beast are added to the Lamb's book of life. This interpretation checks the gospel box, the Thessalonians box, and the Revelation box.

2
blue-pixie-OP•

Jesus will come like a thief in the night. We are in the final years of the world and people are still living like they have the rest of their life. No it will be cut short very soon. People don’t see that their temporary pleasures are not going to matter. The antichrist will be defeated. Nobody is going to Mars. The rich aren’t going to live underground or something. They will have horrifying plagues worse than Covid. The mark of the beast will cause these plagues.

Again, believers and nonbelievers alike will have the same judgment day. No “rapture” no “pre-trib” or whatever confusion satan tries to put out there.

True believers will go through suffering and we must accept that so that we don’t believe the antichrist when he tells people that Jesus forsake them. Those are lies.

1

We are in the final years of the world and people are still living like they have the rest of their life.

You and everyone since the disciples have repeated this. The truth is that no man knows the day. The world has had seasons just as dark and evil as now, if not worse.

Indoctrination.

There are many schools for evangelists and missionaries who indoctrinate people into believing in dispensationalism and the pre-trib rapture. They then go out and spread this doctrine of men as gospel.

They're so blinded by their indoctrination that they can't even see how unnatural and silly the interpretation looks to the rest of us.

1†

With all due respect, everyone's interpretation of End times doctrine looks unnatural and silly to everyone else - including your interpretation and mine. Nobody can know for sure who is right until the time comes.

21
thedove316Christian•

Unless you sacrifice animals on an alter for remission of your sins or maintain the Sabbath day, you are also pretty much a dispensationalist - as you believe that God administers to people differently at different times in history.

Dispensationalist's believe 3 points: 1. God has distinct purposes for Israel and the Church, 2. Believe in the plain and literal interpretation of Scripture, 3. believe the underlying purpose of God in this world is the Glory of God.

Shockingly, people interpret the end-times differently than you do. If there is one area of scripture that is very ambiguous, it's eschatology. That doesn't make them "illogical" or "confused" or "indoctrinated." It just means they interpret it differently, and that's ok.

Yes

2 Thessalonians 2:3

“Let no man deceive you by any means, for that Day shall not come, unless there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition,”

It’s saying don’t be deceived, (people are actively lying about a rapture) the Day (return of Jesus) shall not come until after a falling away (many people turning away from God first) and the antichrist revealed.

The antichrist is coming before Jesus. He will want people to worship him and many will do it. People will be suffering and desperate but that is the wrong choice. They will suffer for eternity if they worship the antichrist. If anyone cares about the eternity of their soul, believe in Jesus and that he died on the cross and rose on the 3rd day for your sins. You have been made righteous in his sacrifice.

It doesn't mean what you think it means. This article does a thorough job explaining. https://enduringword.com/bible-commentary/2-thessalonians-2/

There is no rapture. That’s been one of the great deceptions of our day which has robbed the church of her purpose & vision. No rapture theology was written in the early history of the church. This current rapture perspective is relatively new, like the last couple hundred years or so.

There is no escape plan. Jesus is not coming to rescue us, he is coming for a wedding feast.

What the enemy desires is for Christian’s to focus on “events of last days” rather than being transformed into the image and likeness of Christ, being supernaturally empowered by his Spirit to demonstrate the gospel throughout the earth. (Acts 1:6-8)

I promise you there is no reward in heaven for figuring out the progression of events in the earth.

When Jesus came the first time they all thought they had it figured out, to prove why he couldn’t be the Christ. They were wrong and suffered greatly for it (AD 70, Mt 24)

Don’t be fooled. Satan is a cunning liar, the Bible refers to him as an angel of light. He uses partial and irrelevant truths to draw people into what he is doing in the earth. But the Holy Spirit will show you what Jesus is doing in the earth, if you spend enough time with him. Hint: it’s amazing!

1
Hollandsays•

I don’t see why it matters. Jesus promises that there will be suffering and persecution. There’s as much evidence for a rapture as there is not.

If persecution can cause a person to defect from the faith, they were not very much in the faith to begin with, for the seed of the Holy Spirit is incorruptible. The Antichrist is not cabals of stealing from God.

Like Soteriology, I see eschatology as somewhat irrelevant. Calvinist vs Arminian vs Traditionalist…. Pre-trib vs post trib vs no trib?

How about preach the Gospel, preach the gospel, preach the gospel!

Soteriology assumes we can understand the mercy of God and who it’s applied to. Eschatology assumes we can understand God’s plan, and what exactly will happen.

If the Jews were incapable of seeing Jesus coming, what makes you think we’ll understand the circumstances around His second coming?

If the rapture comes, I will, by His grace, be found serving Him. If it does not come, I will, by His grace, suffer persecution in serving Him.

Preach the gospel to the lost, rather than bring about contention among the brethren over our mismatched hermeneutics.

To assume you have the right interpretation of a specific, but visually obscure prophecy is the epitome of pride and God often proves the prideful wrong. Be humble and accept your lack of knowledge.

1
GraySquirrel7•

Well my friend, because there is some strong evidence for it.

First, consider 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17

By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise. After that, we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.

Whatever you think of this passage exactly, it clearly represents a unique event in which the dead rise and both the risen dead and remaining believers of that time are caught up into the air. We take the word "rapture" from the Latin rapturo, though in Greek we see harpo and in related Old Testament passages we see the Hebrew nechatef, all of which refer to a catching away. This passage alone does not tell us exactly when this rapture occurs, but we get three strong hints.

  1. Jesus descends from heaven with a loud command
  2. The voice of an archangel (possibly an intermediary through whom Jesus gives the command) shall accompany it
  3. The trumpet of God shall accompany it

We get a little more information in 1 Corinthians 15:51-52:

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

Again we see the dead are raised and we are caught up with the trumpet sound. We get two new details here though.

  1. It happens in the "twinkling of an eye"
  2. The trumpet is referred to as the "last trumpet".

We see this sort of event illustrated throughout scripture. First with Enoch, whom God "took away" (Genesis 5:24). Next is Elijah, taken up into the air (2 Kings 2:11). Next, there are the saints who rose from the dead after Jesus was crucified (Matthew 27:52-53). While this passage does not tell us they ascended, we see in Ephesians 4:7-10 that Jesus descended, then ascended on high, leading captives to freedom. We can reasonably assume then that they ascended with Jesus when He did. Which brings us to the fourth instance, Jesus ascending before the apostles (Acts 1:9).

Each of those were past, but we see at least two future raptures occur. One is when the two witnesses are resurrected and ascend (Revelation 11:12). The final instance is the one referred to in 1 Thessalonians 4 and 1 Corinthians 15, quoted above. It is evident that this sixth instance is separate from the others, but we still need to place it chronologically. The biggest clue here is the "last trumpet". In Revelation 10, we see a mighty angel - seemingly the mightiest John sees in this vision - as he proclaims that the mystery of God is finished. What is the mystery of God? In short, it is Jesus and His mission of salvation (more thorough write up on this at https://www.gotquestions.org/mystery-of-God.html).

So in this moment, we have the shout of an archangel, the sound of the last trumpet and the mystery of Jesus completed. The "twinkling of an eye" isn't met, but it isn't contradicted either, so this fits our initial list quite well.

The primary verse we see used to counter pre-tribulation views is 2 Thessalonians 2:3.

Let no one deceive you in any way, for it [the day of the Lord] will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness—the son of destruction—is revealed.

This gives us some indication of the timing, but it is often taken too far. The verse tells us that the rebellion (also known as the falling away or the apostasy) will occur and that the man of lawlessness (commonly called the Antichrist) will be revealed before the rapture. Notice that it does not say that the tribulation will occur. Just as Hitler is most famous for his last 7 years, yet was actually in power for 11 years, the Antichrist may very well spend more time in office than just during the 7 year tribulation. This really seems to be a more reasonable assumption than him suddenly claiming all power and reigning over the 7 years of tribulation. He may very well have a time of consolidating power first, during which it is revealed to the church who he is, only to be raptured away shortly thereafter as he claims absolute power. Of course we can't conclude anything definitively from this verse alone but that is my real point - this verse can easily fit into pre, mid or post-tribulation narratives.

There's obviously a ton more that could be said here, but I think this is more than enough to point out that there are legitimate ways to reach pre-tribulation views from scripture.

Edit for clarity - The reign of the Antichrist is portrayed during the 7th trumpet, meaning the angel of Revelation 10 mentioned above is just before his rise.

1
Jazzlike-Actuary382Christian•

Tribulation is only the last 3.5 years, not the whole 7. People believe in the pre tribulation rapture because it says we are not appointed to wrath. I believe in the post tribulation rapture because in context I believe it's the wrath of Judgment on the Lord's Day that we're not appointed to. I also believe tribulation is local to Israel like all Bible prophecy and Christians have nothing to fear. I think the fear is another contributor to the pre-tribulation rapture belief.

Why is it throughout the bible, throughout history and throughout humanity, bible prophecy has always been clear, true and proven itself as.the word of god yet people still deny? The Bible does not say anything about a rapture. It says how we will have to deny the mark of the beast or else our names will not be written in the book of Life.

It’s the devil’s plan, when famine and tribulations start happening to tell people that they were not taken up in the rapture and to worship the antichrist. The “rapture” is a myth made up by the devil.

Jesus does not return until the end. We all have the SAME judgment day.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 - 5:10 I would not brethren, have you ignorant concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus is dead, and is risen, even so them which sleep in Jesus, will God bring with him. For this say we unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which live, and are remaining in the coming of the Lord, shall not prevent them which sleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, and with the voice of the Archangel, and with the trumpet of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then shall we which live and remain, be caught up with them also in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore, comfort yourselves one another with these words. But of the times and seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For ye yourselves know perfectly, that the day of the Lord shall come, even as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety, then shall come upon them sudden destruction, as the travail upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day shall come on you, as it were a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, neither of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep as do others, but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep, sleep in the night, and they that be drunken, are drunken in the night. But let us which are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and the hope of salvation for an helmet. FOR GOD HAS NOT APPOINTED US UNTO WRATH, but to obtain salvation by the means of our Lord Jesus Christ. Which died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

Thats incorrect , there alredy happened partial resurrection before and single people were resurrected aswell in various situations both by Jesus and his apostles.

MATTHEW 27:52 KJV "And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,"

In Middle of tribulation you have resurrection of 2 witnesses and they are caught up to heaven afterwards.

11 Now after the three-and-a-half days the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them. 12 And [e]they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” And they ascended to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them. 13 In the same hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. In the earthquake seven thousand people were killed, and the rest were afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven.

There are multiple resurrections and being caught up to heaven which people call " Rapture".

Jesus compared resurrection to harvest , different time harvest for different plants , firstfruits , wheat , barley etc.
