Good diction
Be careful what you wish for
the ancient adage goes
Be careful what you wish for
this, everybody knows
Be careful what you wish for
that maxim’s often said
Be careful what you wish for
although I wish, instead
They’d told me to be heedful
of just how my wishing’s done
But I was far too greedful
and my life has not been fun
Enunciate when wishing
Make sure your words are clear
Don’t mumble when you’re wishing
For the thing you want most dear
I wished that I were gilded
Like royalty of old
I wished that I, like Midas
Turned all I touched to gold
But instead I have been GELDED
like a farmer might a horse
And now I live out all my days
With nothing but remorse
A gift I have been given
If ‘gift’ it can be called
I touch things and transform them
And now I am appalled
I wished that I could, with a touch
turn objects into gold
Instead, to my misfortune
what I reach for turns to MOLD
